VPN F5 Desktop Client Installation Instructions

Windows

Follow the instructions below to install the current VPN Desktop Client.

  1. Download the BIG-IP Edge Client installer for Windows using this link. More details about the software are available in Brown's Software Catalog.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts, accepting the default installation options.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. On first launch, you may be prompted for a server name. Enter vpn.brown.edu

macOS

Follow the instructions below to install the current VPN Desktop Client.

  1. Download the BIG-IP Edge Client for macOS using this link. More details about the software are available in Brown's Software Catalog.
  2. Open the BIGIPMacEdgeClient.zip file from your Downloads folder.
  3. Open the mac_edgesvpn.pkg file and follow the on-screen prompts, accepting the default options.
  4. Launch the BIG-IP Edge Client from your Applications folder.

Linux

Although Brown's VPN is not officially supported for all Linux users, it does work in many distributions.
Using Chrome or Firefox:

  1. Visit https://vpn.brown.edu/
  2. Sign in with your Brown credentials and your two-step authorization, if applicable.
  3. Choose "Start Connection" and "More Options" 
  4. Select Install/Reinstall Network Access Application, to obtain a .deb or .rpm for your distribution
  5. Once the application has been configured, restart your browser, and connections via vpn.brown.edu should now be supported.
