Introduction

If you are a Tableau Creator who publishes content to Tableau Server, version compatibility matters between Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server.  Maintain your Tableau Desktop version at the same point version as Tableau Server for compatibility.

For example, if Tableau Server is version 2019.2.3 then Tableau Desktop versions 2019.2, 2019.2.1, 2019.2.2, 2019.2.3 and lower are compatible.

Comparability also matters when you develop content collaboratively with other Tableau Creators—you'll want to coordinate and use the same Tableau Desktop version.

Download the most recent version of Tableau Desktop that is compatible with Tableau Server from software.brown.edu. 

Upgrade Tableau Desktop After a Tableau Server Upgrade

When OIT upgrades Tableau Server to a new version we also upgrade Tableau Desktop. After an upgrade, we'll send an announcement to Tableau Creators to download the Tableau Desktop new version from software.brown.edu.
