macOS 26 Tahoe Now Available

As of November 2025, Brown-managed Macs compatible with macOS 26 Tahoe are able to upgrade themselves to the new operating system. OIT recommends that you consult with your IT support professional if you have any questions or concerns before you download and perform the upgrade. 

Apple released macOS 26 Tahoe on September 15, 2025. OIT has conducted extensive validation and upgraded our systems for compatibility with Brown’s core software, network, and services.

How to Upgrade

From your Apple running macOS 14 or older:

  1. Open System Settings (via the Apple menu)
  2. Click “General”
  3. Click “Software Update”
  4. Click the "Install" button for the macOS Sequoia upgrade

Having problems?

  • Visit Apple's article on how to update your Mac for more details. 
  • If you do not see the upgrade, your Mac may be incompatible. Visit Apple's article for a list of compatible hardware. 
  • Please submit a request if you encounter any other issues.

New Features

Tahoe introduces several new features, including a new design featuring Liquid Glass.

Apple Intelligence is a headline feature of the release. However, at this time, Apple Intelligence-powered features are disabled while privacy policies are undergoing review. This article will be updated with more information when available.
