Access ArcGIS Pro and Online for Brown University

Authors list

Brown University community members are licensed to use ESRI's ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online mapping software, which enable you to create and share interactive maps and apps.

As the University transitions away from the "legacy" ArcGIS suite, the first step is to download ArcGIS Pro by visiting Brown's Software Catalog. Once you install ArcGIS Pro, you will have access to a set of ready-to-use maps and apps within the suite. Previous "legacy" GIS projects will be compatible with ArcGIS Pro.

ArcGIS Pro supports extended features with an ArcGIS Online account, which is available by signing in with your Brown credentials in Microsoft format, using the steps below.

Note: If you have had access to ArcGIS Online prior to July 30, 2024, continue to enter your ESRI ArcGIS Online login username and password and avoid clicking the "Brown University" button in the instructions below. Further communication on migration steps will be made at a future date.

Below are the step-by-step instructions:

  1.   Using a web browser, visit Brown's ArcGIS Organization URL: brown.maps.arcgis.com.
  2.   Click on the "Brown University" button as shown below:
  3.  If you created an ArcGIS Online account before July 30, 2024, you can continue to use your previous credentials by clicking "ArcGIS login" with your separate username and password.
  4.   If prompted to login, enter your Brown credentials in Microsoft format, for example:  jcarberr@ad.brown.edu
  5.   If prompted, complete the 2-factor challenge to access your account
  6.   Once authorized, you will be taken to the ArcGIS Online profile page for your ESRI account.
